Bush names Negroponte as first national intelligence director
President Bush appoints John Negroponte, longtime diplomat and former ambassador to Iraq, to head the new national intelligence directorate. The 65 year old will oversee 15 agencies, work with Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and CIA Director Goss, and manage a roughly 40 billion dollar covert budget.
