Frank Parker Delights Cedar Rapids Auto Show Crowd

Frank Parker headlined the Cedar Rapids Auto Show, delivering a half hour of songs in a smooth tenor and witty banter that kept about two thousand weary attendees entertained. Remley Resigns as Jones County Attorney

Jones County Attorney James Remley submitted his resignation to the board of supervisors effective March 1. He cited his father’s death and increased case load as reasons and urged the selection of a Republican successor by the Jones County Republican central committee. He had served six years and begun his fourth term.

At the Cedar Rapids Council of Telephone Pioneers of America midyear meeting in Nick's restaurant plans were laid for a life member club. Attending were Chapter Secretary C. K. Miller of Des Moines and council chairmen from Anamosa and Dubuque, with a winter party and memoir collection discussed.

Schwengel Tells Wish To Support Pay Increase

Rep. Schwengel of Iowa said he would have voted for the pay raise for federal lawmakers. He spoke in a Congressional Record statement noting salaries should match those in business to keep government on sound footing and called adequate pay part of good government. He was traveling from Wyoming and Iowa after Lincoln Day speeches.

The Cedar Rapids promenade orchestra under Joseph Kitchin will perform Sunday at 8 15 p m in the Coe college auditorium as part of a series of free light music concerts. Fire losses for December 1954 totaled 10373 with 6844.37 for buildings and 3529.12 for contents. Insurance covered all, per Fire Chief Jesse Hunter to the city council. Building value cited at 1219138.72 and contents at 1167175.
