Truck Tax Lobbyists Must Reveal Backing
An Iowa house committee ordered lobbyists who seek hearings to file statements on who they represent and their financing sources. The move, aimed at truck legislation, sparks clashes over third house influence with railroads and trucking groups cited in the dispute. Independent Truckers of Iowa chair James Brockway welcomed the disclosure, while citizens committee rep Peter S Peterson pledged cooperation with any state inquiries. The key issue is reciprocal tax treatment for out-of-state trucks and a proposed ten-mile tax on all trucks over four tons, domestic and foreign, seen as affecting road use and funding.
