Jaworski Defends ABA Autonomy in ATLA Critique

In his reply Jaworski asserts the ABA has no authority to limit the policies of other groups including the American Trial Lawyers Association. Lewis of San Francisco informs Mrs. Knaver that her charge makes him think of Nazi Germany, while Knaver rebukes Lewis for mentioning a clock installed in Malaga. She calls the remark distressing and uncalled for as a clock in a church in Malaga chimes flamenco tunes. Ads note want ads for sellers.

ABA Turns Down Probe Of Another Lawyer Unit

Washington APA reports the American Bar Association declined a White House request to probe whether the American Trial Lawyers Association, ATLA, violated ethics by opposing no fault auto insurance. Virginia Knauer, consumer affairs adviser, released a letter from ABA President Leon Jaworski saying the ABA has no authority to investigate ATLA. Knauer criticized ATLA President Marvin Lewis for alleged influence and distortion in his campaign against no fault proposals pending before Congress and state legislatures. No fault would have insurance companies cover medical and repair bills to reduce premiums by avoiding fault disputes. ATLA members profit from court cases amid the debate.
