Cattle feeding curbed by feed shortage and price pressure
War Food administration experts report Southwest cattle feeding down this winter due to tighter feed supplies and lower finished cattle prices. Kansas on feed is 12 percent below last year, 11 major corn belt states down 16 percent, and National Livestock Producers estimates 25 to 30 percent. Lower grade beef may offset gains from lighter, short fed cattle amid a government subsidy influenced price gap and protein feed shortages.
