A proposed bill seeks to rewrite Iowa’s beer statute by eliminating class C permits, capping municipal class B permits by population, and tying beer dealer licenses to federal stamps. Mrs Byrd Chasis 47 of Stanwood died about 11 30 pm Thursday when a Century taxi collided with a semi trailer from Bus Transportation Co of Omaha and a Standard forwarding trailer on Highway 30 six miles east of Cedar Rapids. Ruppert Thiessen of Stanwood was injured and hospitalized. Investigators cited blinded drivers and taxi swerving to avoid the stalled truck. Funeral services set for Stanwood Sunday.
The 1890s code in Chapter 267 Article 5298 required kin from parents to children to support poor relatives. A Des Moines bill seeking changes would restrict such duty to relatives who are able and willing. The remark questions whether social welfare standards have degraded.

Beverly Hills police say director Norman Taurog's hillside home is under guard after a telephoned threat to kidnap his six year old daughter Pat Taurog. Two investigators were assigned to watch the mansion following the warning received last Sunday. The FBI declined to comment.

An authoritative source reports Premier Benito Mussolini narrowly escaped a shooting near his Villa Torlonia residence in Rome. A private detective was wounded when a mentally unbalanced man fired from his coat pocket as Mussolini prepared to leave for Venice palace.
