Direct Marketing Gains In Iowa Hog Trade In 1932
USDA tables show Iowa hog producers shifting toward direct marketing in 1932, with packers taking a larger share due to hog shortages and higher Iowa prices. Monthly increases in direct shipments over central markets, plus truck transport and high terminal costs, pushed more hogs to packers and private buyers despite lower market receipts.
