Army plan to swap Apaches with Guard sparks concerns
In Morrisville North Carolina the Army proposes removing all Apache attack helicopters from eight National Guard battalions including the 1-130th at Morrisville to fund modernization and training with UH-60 Blackhawks while phasing out OH-58 Kiowa Warriors. Guard leaders warn the move risks weakening reserve capabilities and strategic depth. The 1-130th has over 400 soldiers with about 150 full-time staff and has deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11 without losses.
