Caltech scientists detect farthest known galaxy from Earth
A Caltech led team reports a tiny galaxy 13 billion light years away, the farthest object observed. Gravitational lensing by cluster Abell 2218 magnifies the galaxy, enabling study with Hubble and Keck telescopes as cosmologists note a view into the universe’s Dark Ages and early star formation.
