Investigators tour Louisiana plant tied to shuttle fuel tank
Space shuttle investigators visited the Louisiana facility where the external fuel tank was built as the Columbia probe continues. Search crews also comb mountains east of Albuquerque, New Mexico, two weeks after the disaster, while officials disclosed that two to four control jets fired during the final minutes to stabilize the craft. Debris reports and the last communication from the seven astronauts frame the time of breakup over New Mexico. Debris recovery focuses on East Texas where rain hinders efforts.

Debris finds widen shuttle Columbia investigation scope
Adm Harold Gehman Jr says debris found west of Fort Worth marks the farthest point yet as the board probes the disaster. A turbopump and a damaged general purpose computer were located near Fort Polk and outside New Orleans respectively while investigators seek data to reconstruct Columbia’s final moments. Sheila Widnall joins the 10 member panel expressing suspicion heat from reentry caused the breakup, as a Lockheed Martin plant visit yields new data.
