Iowa House considers health cost bill with data commission

Rep. Robert Arnould cites 74 percent cost rise 1974 to 1979 while living costs rose 40 percent. He notes Iowa residents spend more time in hospitals and Blue Cross Blue Shield users exceed national averages. The bill would create a data commission to standardize billing and study costs, length of stay, and testing to curb excess spending. Some push to add consumer seats on Blues boards failed 35 to 58. Legislators warn the bill won’t solve all cost issues and more reforms may follow.
