Hope To Cut Fair Security Force
DES MOINES AP State fair officials aim to reduce the security force and raise its quality after last year cost a record 88925 dollars. Over 400 temporary officers were hired at two dollars an hour to cover the fair in 1975, with Iowa highway patrol handling law enforcement since the prior year. Fees to Scout groups for parking supervision and off duty officers for grandstand monitoring pushed total public safety spending beyond 100000 dollars. State Fair Secretary Kenneth Falk told the board no one from last year’s force should be rehired, but he later said increased supervision of part time officers would suffice.
