Troop Move To Vietnam Sees Many Veterans Redeployed

Nearly half of the paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne brigade and a large share of the 27th Marine Regiment headed to Vietnam have prior combat duty. About 1,000 Army men have been back in the U.S. fewer than 12 months, and many Marines have been away from Vietnam for over a year. The Pentagon details the 10,500 troop deployment but cites no units by name. The moves reflect a manpower squeeze complicating 12 to 24 month tour rules.
