Attempt To Form Second Wilson Union At Cedar Rapids Plant
Don Mahon of Des Moines says a Cedar Rapids organizing committee has adopted a constitution and filed for a National Brotherhood of Packinghouse Workers charter to form a second Wilson union local. He predicts a secret ballot election after a March 3 4 board meeting and notes the UPWA dispute and NLRB actions. About 300 400 attended, UPWA disputes attendance figures. The national union has 25 000 members in meat packing dairy and food plants nationwide and would grant locals autonomy with master agreements on broader issues.
