AIDS-stricken Dutac family grieves Goedken father and son
The Goedken family mourns the father who died last Tuesday in Monticello after AIDS claimed multiple relatives. Loras Goedken, 52, notes his father lived well despite the illness and reflects on a long marriage, 11 children, and a nursing home stay. He now travels to educate about AIDS and opposes prejudice. Stephen, a Dubuque loan manager, calls himself lucky as the family endures widespread loss. The four Goedken daughters remain close, guided by faith and friendship.
