Polanski Sentencing Delayed Over Judge Bias Claims
SANTA MONICA AP Roman Polanski's in absentia sentencing for having sex with a 13 year old girl was delayed after defense attorney Douglas Dalton filed a motion of prejudice minutes before the scheduled sentencing. Dalton alleged Superior Court Judge Laurence Rittenband showed bias and prejudice and Polanski fled to Paris last month. Dalton said he hoped a new judge could be named to bring Polanski back, though the director would not return if he feared an inequitable sentence. The judge appeared stunned by the allegations of press-driven hearings.
