Mrs. Robert H. Antin 31 of 610 Old Marion Road NE announced candidacy for Cedar Rapids school board in the March 10 election. Born 1926, she holds a BA in mathematics from Carleton College and taught in New York City. She and her husband, VP of National Data Processing, have four children.
The notice lists multiple stop sign and traffic violations with names and fines including Vernon Wayman Sidney Cary Ronald Wilkey and others. Temperatures colder than normal will continue for 30 days east of the Continental Divide. The widest deviation from normal will be in the northeast, with a warming trend in the first half of March in the southeast. Precipitation is projected to exceed normal along the northwest, Gulf, and South Atlantic coasts, with subnormal amounts in the far Southwest and around the Great Lakes.
City Briefs report Boudreaux of Penick and Ford in Cedar Rapids has been named to the taxation committee of the National Association of Manufacturers. Also note Mrs Louise Kelley is recovering after surgery at Mercy Hospital and Mrs C C Racine was X-rayed at St Luke's after a fall attempting to fetch mail.
A trainee's rifle bullet ricocheted off a cement target and killed Sergeant William Ditzler, 37, of Muskogee Oklahoma, who was seated in a shack about 20 feet from the target area.
In Midvale Utah Roger Furse missed his eighth birthday party because Russell Drake contracted measles the day before the event. Russell held his ninth birthday party on Friday but Roger again could not attend due to illness.
In Ouray Colorado three rescuers attempting to reach a fourth entombed by a snowslide were swept away by a second slide. The canyon collapse killed Ted Mason Walt Smith and Danny Gerrell with Mike Muransky among the lost. Disastrous weather hampered probes as authorities warned of further slides.
STILLWATER Okla AP a detective who killed two burglars during a Christmas break in was jailed after admitting he conspired with one thief to let the other escape and arrest his partner George Bledsoe 33 signed a statement saying he plotted with Blackie Yost 56 to capture Ray Abbott 60 while both robbed a Cushing drugstore They were shot inside the store Bivins said Bledsoe was hiding in the establishment and fired when attacked He also said Yost was to run and not be caught County Attorney Greiner weighs charges Bledsoe said he arranged with Yost to capture Abbott for 250 with the two burglars having prior burglary records The case followed tips from an underworld source after a month long probe Tulsa police captain reported a tip Officials said no action against Bledsoe yet He has served on the force since 1954 and is married with two children
Ford Motor Company announced that its Ford division sold 37,329 more new cars in 1957 than Chevrolet. Final figures show Ford with 1,493,617 registrations versus 1,456,288 for Chevrolet, out of a total 5,982,342 registrations and capturing about a quarter of the market.
In Budapest AP reports Endre Sik, who has served as foreign minister since Imre Horvath died February 2, was announced Saturday as the country's new foreign minister, succeeding Horvath.
Lt. Col. Chang Chun-sheng, defected Chinese artillery officer, warns extreme rural poverty and state indoctrination could fuel rebellion. He notes Peiping Navy and Air force weaknesses and cites the Sino American defense pact keeping the U S Seventh Fleet near Formosa.
Kenneth Crosby, 30, of 214 Fourth Ave SW, pleaded guilty in Linn district court to a second offense drunk driving charge. Judge Charles Penningroth postponed sentencing to Wednesday after Crosby’s arrest Thursday evening when his stalled car blocked Fourth Ave SW and Second St. Crosby’s prior Har rison county conviction dated May 13, 1950. Leo H Prather, 37, of 501 Sixth Ave SE, also pled guilty to drunk driving. sentencing was delayed to Saturday with $100 paid now and $50 monthly thereafter.
A District Court judge entered a $4500 judgment Friday in favor of the Nall Company of Iowa City against Mr and Mrs Walter F Hogan of Cedar Rapids. The suit, a 2%-year-old lease dispute over rental of commercial property in Iowa City, was not settled by a counterclaim dismissed for lack of proof.
Barbara C Rhodes of 1414 Bave NE Cedar Rapids had bench parole revoked after pleading guilty to a larceny charge last August. She was ordered to serve a five year sentence at the Rockwell City women's reformatory after authorities reported parole violations.
Four lawsuits were filed on Friday and Saturday naming plaintiffs and defendants. Lloyd Kupps of Cedar Rapids seeks $509.88 for car damage against Elson R. Moon of Middle Amana.
Tony Horacek faces Lawlor couple over 183 dollars for painting labor and materials. K and A Truck Lines seeks 385.45 dollars on account from Choate Equipment. Dr Jerald Greenblatt sues John Consuelo Conway for 132.25 on account.
A case appealed from Justice of Peace M H Bid dick's court was sustained by Judge Charles Penning roth. Bohumil Mal ike of Lisbon was fined $10 for failing to signal before turning.
The Linn county petit jury must report to the courthouse Monday at 9 a.m. One civil trial is scheduled to begin Monday as the February term of district court convenes.

In Pontiac Michigan a sleeping 2 year old collie named Belle woke the TerMarsch family when a stranger entered through a back door after his car was stuck in a ditch. Deputies found the man and his vehicle nearby.
A $10,000 gift from the Fisher Foundation of Marshalltown will fund construction sound proofing and equipment for a new music library in Coe College. The Fisher Music Library will house listening rooms record files radio gear and lounge furniture serving as study and leisure space. J W Fisher president of Fisher Governor Company has sat on Coe's board since 1950. About $500 000 of the $650 000 project total is pledged with bids to be invited in eight weeks and spring construction planned north of Coe auditorium to replace Marshalltown area facilities.
Former U S leader Stassen resigns to reenter politics in Pennsylvania with a view to a gubernatorial bid and possible 1960 GOP presidential run. President Eisenhower notes Stassen’s service while declining to comment on political reasons. Hagerty says the disarmament adviser post is vacant.
Joseph A. Miller 28 of Maynard escaped serious injury when his car swerved to avoid a sudden car and collided head on with a vehicle driven by Wilson Gill 48 dean of men at Upper Iowa University Fayette. Miller was thrown to the pavement but revived with cuts and bruises. Gill unharmed.

An armed man was arrested Saturday at the Harry S. Truman library after a failed attempt to gain admission to the former president's home in Independence, Missouri. Police identified the officer involved as Mike Westwood.

Anthony Polley 67 a sewage disposal engineer testified in Chicago that a lurching train prevented a vigorous campaign for governor in 1956 while he was an inactive Republican primary candidate. He sued Gulf Mobile and Ohio Railroad for 100000, claiming injuries en route to Chicago after filing nominating petitions. Judge Perry dismissed the suit as frivolous.
Dorothy Newsome, 21, who disappeared two weeks ago after leaving her two young sons with a babysitter, was found Friday night in a cafe in Columbus. Police arrested her on a charge of contributing to neglect of minors and jailed her.
