Branstad Defends Restrained K-12 Funding Plan
Iowa Governor Branstad defends a cautious 1.25 percent rise in state funding for elementary and secondary schools, contrasting with a Democratic estimate near 430 million. He cites district cost increases and union settlements with Cedar Rapids Education Association as drivers. Branstad calls his plan a responsible, stabilizing commitment and questions higher spending amid limited state funds. He notes potential support for a unified school start date compromise and remains hopeful on bullying legislation.
