Former health spa operators sentenced for tax evasion in Cedar Rapids

Federal Judge David Hansen sentenced Fred Henry to three years in prison plus five years probation and Linda Henry to two years in prison plus three years probation for evading 25 765 in federal income taxes from 1979 to 1981. Each was fined 30 000. The Henrys, former operators of Happy Hour Health Spa, claimed gifts and innocence while prosecutors noted asset transfers to hide income.

Fire destroys Kirk Hayes home near Waubeek on Jordan's Grove Road

Friday blaze razed the 1,100 square foot log house on a five acre plot near Jordan's Grove Road. The Hayes family lost belongings and a $3,000 gun collection. Red Cross assigned a caseworker. Hayes and wife, two daughters at school, faced rebuilding. Firefighters from several departments battled the flames as ammo from the gun collection fired.

Franchises clash as Donutland pushes escrow fees

Donutland Inc to escrow franchise fees after eight holders balk at remaining affiliated. In Cedar Rapids a December hearing aimed to keep the franchises with the company while disputes over advertising use and service provision linger. Five Charged With Drunken Driving In Linn County

Five motorists were charged with drunken driving Thursday evening in Linn County with times and arrest locations listed. Neighbors reported a TV theft at 1610 Seminole Ave NW. arrests followed with helicopter assist amid ransacked rooms and stolen items found.

Tele-Food loss won’t halt Cedar Rapids move plans

Tele-Food Systems Inc leadership announced that a $250000 Iowa loan guarantee rejection by the Iowa Department of Economic Development will not stop the firm’s plan to relocate telecom operations to Cedar Rapids. The company expects to hire 80 this year and 400 by 1988, pending finances, while officials note only 556260 was available in February from lottery funds.

Equipment stolen from Rodney L. Jones residence

Burglars broke the front door glass to enter the home of Rodney L. Jones at 2310 A Ave NE and stole entertainment equipment valued at more than $7,000, according to police reports.
