Washington AP report says President Charles de Gaulle likely to push France’s access to U.S. atomic weapons know how as France rises as a nuclear power.
Paris says France will follow a tower device test with an operational A bomb. Maj. Gen. Ailleret confirms a plutonium device at Tanezrouf in Algeria. De Gaulle hails the success as France moves to join the US Britain and Russia in the atomic club. No fallout reported. weather favorable.
Argentina reports trapping a second submarine in Golfo Nuevo on the Patagonian coast. The bay hosts two subs. one appears damaged while the other operated normally as U.S. planes provided depth charges and gear to assist anti submarine efforts.
In Copenhagen AP reports that of 13,500 Danes condemned after WWII, only Prisoner X remains jailed. He could be paroled within months after serving since 1953 for a wartime killing. He evaded capture for eight years.

Daryl Chessman lost another appeal but said he still has legal resources to halt his execution scheduled Friday. A stay denial came from Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black. Chessman spoke at San Quentin and awaited a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco as Chief Judge Richard H. Chambers referred the matter to a three judge panel.
New York AP Jack Paar quit his show in a huff and NBC issued a letter from president Robert Kintner apologizing that Paar was not informed in advance about deleting an anecdote from his taped program The apology supported the network stance on the deletion and reflected a shared view with NBC chairman Robert W Sarnoff Paar later said the letter did not change his decision to leave his late night program.
An 11-year-old New York heiress and her husband, an $85-a-week deli clerk, were arrested in Miami Beach after a six month search. The couple, Roberta Ronnie Orr Brady, daughter of the late Robert Orr, said they wanted to be left alone. They were located by routine fingerprint checks on Brady's job application, with FBI and local police detaining them in a small apartment.
Dieter Otte 22 was admitted to Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids in good condition after a .22 revolver fired in his pocket while rabbit hunting near West Amana. He was wounded in the right leg and treated by an Amana doctor before transfer.
