Legislature moves elder abuse bill forward in Iowa
Iowa lawmakers push to tighten protections for residents aged 60 and older. The proposal from a two year study creates an elder abuse law, expands definitions, and sets new criminal offenses including elder abuse assault theft and financial exploitation with penalties from misdemeanors to felonies. The measure directs the Department on Aging to establish an elder resource and referral system and to work with area agencies on aging.
