Congress Record: House Votes on Marriage Tax Penalty Bill HR 6
The House passed HR 6 to end the marriage tax penalty with a 268 to 158 vote. The bill doubles the couple standard deduction, expands the 15 percent bracket to $52,500, and raises the Earned Income Tax Credit for joint filers, effective 2001.
