Peter Alois Stammeyer died February 10 2010 at age 73 with roots in St Lucas Iowa. He married Cynthia Winchell November 29 1958 and had four children three daughters and a son. He lived in Cedar Rapids before moving to Van Horne and supported his community through the Lions Club Future Green and the Van Horne Coop Telephone Co board. Funeral Mass February 16 2010 at Immaculate Conception Church Van Horne with burial at St Luke’s Cemetery St Lucas. Donations to Van Horne First Responders Fire Fighters were requested.

Gerard Thompson, automatically charged as an adult, has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 22 after a $1 million bond. First degree murder carries a life sentence without parole. Investigators say Thompson, from Holland Michigan, was the shooter with possible accomplices and multiple witnesses tied him to the murder.
