Assistant Health Officer Carl Smith reported Cedar Rapids recorded 103 reportable disease cases in the 31 days ending January. Measles led with 71 cases, followed by chicken pox with 26. mumps, whooping cough, scarlet fever, and diphtheria also appeared. Deaths in January totaled 68, higher than December and January of the previous year.

Mrs Bretislav Kubik 46 a Cedar Rapids resident for 19 years died at her Chicago home Friday. Born in Czechoslovakia she came to the United States 26 years ago. She belonged to Zizkov Dub Z C B J Pomenka Vlasti Ceske Vlastenky and the Czech Reading Society. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter Henrietta Drahovzal of Chicago and a son Kenneth Kubik of Glendale California. Her mother and a brother live in Czechoslovakia. Funeral services and burial will be in Chicago at a time to be announced later.

Ehrenberger Fined $100 For Hitting Parked Car
Chester Ehrenberger of 1825 E Avenue NE was fined 100 plus costs after pleading guilty to striking an unattended vehicle owned by Leo Cerney of 513 Seventeenth Street SE. The incident occurred on A Avenue NE between First and Second streets the night of January 30. Ehrenberger reportedly fled the scene and was later apprehended. He attributed the crash to icy streets causing his car to slide into the other vehicle.

Six of January’s 15 led to formal delinquency hearings, with two dependent neglected cases disposed of and one prior case dismissed. Judge awards Emily Rummells judgment in divorce dispute
Saturday Judge G K Thompson granted Emily C Rummells a 3416.96 judgment against her husband Philip L Rummells in a divorce case begun last September. He ruled that property be split equally, including two joint bank accounts and a 1949 Ford club coupe bought with joint funds. The judgment creates a lien on the couple’s accounts and the car and bars transfer of property until paid. The court set aside the car’s transfer to Ruth P Slach as far as Mrs Rummells is concerned.

Overrule Rector Request To Set Aside Indictment
H. Austin Rector withdrew his guilty plea to an embezzlement charge and asked the court to set aside the indictment. Judge Floyd Philbrick overruled the motion after hearing it. Rector then re entered a plea of innocent. The indictment alleged he embezzled 169.96 dollars from A and T Chemical Company on September 10. His trial is set for February 20. He is appealing a district court ruling to return to Kansas to face a three count check charge.
