Hidden Treasures in a Cedar Rapids Library Sale
Michael Bourgo writes from the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library book sale. Volunteers sort donations into fiction and themes, uncovering letters, tickets, photos, and an 1881 school exercise by Addie C. The finds include a 1952 telegram, World War II era photos, and a faded 19th century math page hinting at Addie’s life in Cedar Rapids.

Debut novel probes life questions in Y book read
Rob Cline reports on Marjorie Celona's What: Y, a debut about Shannon and her mother Yula. The author uses present tense to explore abandonment, nature versus nurture, and loyalty through Shannon's narration of her mother's choices and her own coming of age, with a daring omniscient perspective.
