Iowa City gains more independent films than Cedar Rapids
The Cedar Rapids and Iowa City cinema market shows 19 screens in Cedar Rapids across Wynnsong 12 and Cinema 7 and 19 screens in Iowa City at three theaters led by Cinema 6 Sycamore Mall and Coral Ridge 10. Independent films flourish in Iowa City with Bijou and Campus 3 Theatres hosting foreign and US indie titles. Smaller films face limited prints, delaying releases and causing cross-town handoffs while both towns lose some venues to modern multiplexes.
