Censorship in TV Described By Writers Guild Leader
Hollywood note recalls Writers Guild of America West President Richard M. Powell describing how network format control destroys original concepts. A satire plan about a family from outer space is watered down to fit ratings, with New York executives pushing for more children and a dog, producing a "Brady Bunch from outer space."

House Votes Interim Debt Ceiling Hike
Washington AP report says the House approved a 20 billion four month rise in the national debt limit by 248 to 147. Nixon was urged to propose revenue sharing tax reforms to secure added borrowing in June as the Senate plans action before the $90 billion ceiling is hit. Wilbur Mills warned failure to act could leave the government unable to pay bills. Democratic liberals sought a Nixon mandate on closing loopholes and reforming gift and estate taxes, while Mills indicated slow progress but some movement on tax changes.

Italians Face Early Elections Amid Government Collapse

A center-left coalition breakup, bickering among four parties, and labor unrest hint at gains for neo-Fascists and other rightists. The turmoil traces to December splits over the presidency and policy divides on the divorce law and economy.
