McCarney Named Florida Assistant Head Coach Defense
Former Iowa State coach Dan McCarney, 54, was hired Friday as Florida's assistant head coach for the defensive line. Meyer cited his head coaching experience, noting McCarney is ISU's winningest coach with 56 victories. McCarney previously worked at South Florida as assistant head coach for the defensive line. Separately, Shonn Greene and Amari Spievey signed letters of intent to return to Iowa football. Ferentz called the moves a positive addition to the Hawkeyes roster. Greene hails from Sicklerville New Jersey and rushed 205 yards in 2006 with one touchdown. Spievey, from Middletown Connecticut, redshirted in 2006 at Iowa and played last season at Iowa Central Community College.
