Mother recalls loss as killer gets life in prison

Shanel Franklin, mother of Tommy Curry's four children, described the grief of losing him to a fatal April 2021 shooting. Renard Winfield Jr. was sentenced to life without parole plus 150000 restitution after being convicted of first degree murder.

Man convicted in revenge killing lured victim via online dating

A Johnson County jury convicted Winfield of first degree murder for a revenge plot in which he posed as a woman on Plenty of Fish to lure Curry to his death in Iowa City. Prosecutors said he fired 15 shots at Curry's SUV after the 2020 shooting that wounded him.

One injured in Cedar Rapids shooting early Friday
