Frank N. Magid, a pioneer in survey research and the creator of the Action News format, died February 5, 2010, in Santa Barbara, California at age 78 after a battle with lymphoma. He founded Frank N. Magid Associates in 1957 and helped launch CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite, ABC's Good Morning America, and the early local newscast model across the nation. Magid, born September 1, 1931 in Chicago, built a global media research firm from Iowa, retiring as CEO in 2002 and remaining chairman until his death. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife, and several relatives.
