The extended forecast calls for clear and cold skies from Sunday through Tuesday. Two brothers Thomas E. Carney III and Tracy E. Carney, both of 2601 Thirty-third Ave SW, were charged with breaking and entering after $1,281 in cash and $83 in checks were taken from the Vickers service station at 3326 Center Point Road NE last week. Brandt Simpson, 21, also of 2601 Thirty-third Ave SW, was charged with larceny as an employee. The money was taken from a safe after the station closed Friday night. signs of forced entry were found but no force on the safe. The Carneys posted $5,000 bond each and were released from county jail.
The United States agreed on Friday to lend Indonesia 24.7 million dollars to support a malaria control program in Jakarta and surrounding areas, aimed at reducing transmission and improving public health infrastructure.
Obituary notices list Joseph J. Roeder 76 of 406 Twentieth Street NW who died at home after a sudden illness, with service Monday at St Patrick's Church and burial at Rockwell Catholic cemetery. Jack L. Forrester a 19 year old of Marion was charged with receiving stolen property after hindering Linn deputies during a juvenile arrest. He faced a $10000 bond on the property charge and $1000 on the resisting arrest charge. Danny Q Leonard 18 of Cedar Rapids was charged with breaking and entering in the case and a 17 year old suspect was held for juvenile authorities.
DES MOINES The compulsory school attendance age would rise to 18 from 16 under a bill introduced in the Iowa House by Rep. Wally Horn. He argues the 16 to 18 period is when students drop out and become chronically unemployed due to job shortages.
Three people sustained minor injuries in two traffic crashes Friday. In the 900 block of Blairs Ferry road NE Richard C. Ross 26 and wife Jeanette 28 were treated at St Luke's after a two car collision as Ross stopped to turn left into a private driveway. Donald L Ellison Jr 36 of Onslow was not charged. In the Ninth street NW and First avenue area Linda R Shields 19 was treated at Mercy for a bruised leg and sprained arm after a Second accident stemming from a backing car driven by Daniel T Sonday 433 Fourth ave SW who struck Shields car while it was stopped for a sign and Detweiler 18 moved his reverse car into Shields. Sonday and Detweiler faced charges related to driving restrictions.
