Cedar Rapids plans $2 million transformation for Greene Square Park
A Cedar Rapids committee from city, museum, library, church and Waypoint proposes a $1.9 million upgrade for Greene Square Park. The plan removes concrete planters, adds open lawn space, updates trees and shrubs, and reconfigures the diagonal sidewalk into an arc while preserving park roles for Uptown Friday Night, farmers markets and urban lunches. A playground, picnic area, and a space to store the Christmas tree are planned with possible restrooms and a coffee spot. Fundraising may start in March with a 2014 completion target.
