Will Women Have Jobs To Postwar

Washington report surveys postwar job prospects for women. It notes 16 million employed women during wartime, possibly rising to 18 million, then a drop to 15 million after peace. Analysts expect many women to return to school or shift jobs, while others stay in service sectors and war plant conversions. The National Women's Trade Union League calls for equal pay and better conditions, predicting growth in retail, service industries, and peace-time plant work. Elisabeth Christman urges wage, hours, and social benefits parity to deter a pushback against women workers. The Women's Bureau warns against fears of women displacing soldiers and against discrimination.
