Shane Ryan was found guilty by a Wapello County jury of first degree arson and first degree burglary as well as assault in the Ottumwa house fire case. He was acquitted on two counts of attempted murder. Sentencing follows a pre sentence investigation in April.
A Sunday morning fire in the 3800 block of Clark Road SE spread from a garage to a residence but caused no injuries. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 10:56 a.m. All occupants escaped, two cats were found alive, and other cats reportedly fled before crews arrived. Cause remains under investigation.
