Panel backs sales tax grants for flood victims in Cedar Rapids
The Local Option Sales Tax Oversight Committee voted 5 to 2 to endorse using LOST revenue for up to 10000 per homeowner for personal possessions lost in the June 2008 flood and up to 4000 for flood-impacted renters. The panel noted the funds align with the 2009 referendum and the city’s spending has nearly exhausted the 25 million LOST designated for flood programs. The council plans a May 3 vote to extend LOST for 20 years to fund streets and a flood protection system along the Cedar River.
