Expenditure tax plan targets travel costs for 1968 69 seasons
The proposal taxes the first $8 of excess and 30 percent on the remainder from enactment to Oct 1 1969 covering two travel seasons. Proponents say the tax won’t heavily affect modest incomes, noting low income travelers like students or visiting relatives spend about $10 daily, with about 45 cents daily tax. Transportation to and from the country remains untaxed by this measure though excise would apply.
