January milk samples from Cedar Rapids dairies all met city dairy ordinance standards with butterfat at or above three percent for milk and sixteen percent for cream. Inspectors report bacteria plate counts under 50 000 per cubic centimeter, with many entries noted as very low under 25 000 in the listed dairies and brands.
Cedar Rapids seeks extra cinders to improve road safety for motorists and pedestrians. Commissioner Dave Williams reports scarce railroad supplies at Otis Marion and Beverly and a fruitless search at Milwaukee railroad yards. Fire on the second floor of Frank D. Cach at 915 Second Street SE caused damage to a closet wall and floor, with flames reaching Cach Glass and Paint below but no stock burned. The blaze was spotted by Pete Hach who alerted firefighters at 8 07 p m. The fire began in a closet and wall areas, and chimney sparks caused two additional roof fires at local homes. Melbourne imposes 40 dollar fines for jaywalking as a new pedestrian enforcement measure.
