Iowa Bill Would Cap Drunken Driving Lawsuit Damages
Iowa lawmakers advanced bills to cap damages in Dram Shop cases at 75000 for injury or property loss and 100000 for loss of support or companionship from death or injury. The measures, backed by the Iowa Restaurant Association and opposed by the Iowa Association of Justice, would apply only when the intoxicated server sold to a visibly intoxicated person. Both chambers moved the bills to committee as Republicans press for stronger drunk driving controls.
