Iowa City Budget Cuts Hit University of Iowa Programs
The Iowa Legislature required a 0.5 percent state agency cut totaling 30 million, sparing student financial aid and library acquisitions at the University of Iowa but forcing central administrative units to trim budgets. UI Hospitals faces a 244 thousand cut from its 443 million budget, with hopes of offsetting losses through patient revenue. Other affected units include the Public Health Initiative, reduced by 100 thousand, and the Hygienic Laboratory, down 20 thousand 373, delaying a chemist hire and slowing event monitoring.
