Suit Threatened On 549 Corridor
The Iowa Cedar Rapids Marion area freeway plan faces immediate legal challenge as two groups prepare court action over the proposed northeast south west route. City and county officials, plus civic leaders, heard an interim report from Kansas City planners on 134 corridor options. The high scoring corridor would start at the future I 149 interchange and run northeast along Williams boulevard, near Nelson avenue SW, past Rockford road and along railroad tracks to the I 380 interchange, crossing the Cedar River near Eighth avenue, then continuing along Eighth avenue SE toward Fourth street, with details to be published in Sunday editions.

Fate of Adult Rights at 18 Bill Uncertain
DES MOINES A landmark bill setting 19 as the drinking age and 18 as the age to start other adult rights moved back to the Town House with an uncertain fate. Robert Ray urged a uniform 18 for all adult rights, while Lt. Gov. Roger Jepsen switched to 19 over school-age concerns, boosting the amendment’s momentum.
