Cedar Rapids police report a year of red light and speed cameras with eight intersections plus two spots on each direction on I 380. National Institute for Highway Safety finds red light cameras cut fatal crashes by 24 percent 2004 2008 saving 159 lives in 14 big cities and projecting 815 fewer deaths if all large cities used cameras. Local data show 5.24 percent drop in property damage and 15.88 percent drop in personal injury crashes 2009 2010 with seven of eight intersections reducing red light running.
