Amana Man Invents Ice Scraper for Highways
Roy Gaddis of Amana develops a scraper attachment for a standard highway blade. Tests on Highway No. 149 show 84 scrapers moving like keys of a player piano, scraping ice 3 to 4 inches thick and removing down to one fourth inch without damaging pavement. Gaddis has applied for a patent.

McGregor CCC Expands Quarry and Timber Work This Winter
McGregor CCC crews focus this winter on timber stand improvement and rock quarrying for agricultural lime and erosion control. Quarries operate at Giard John Bernhard site and Alvin Marting farm with three more to open. Timber crews work on Vogt farm near Giard, Kranert farm in Allamakee County, and Koether farm near Giard, with earlier work at Schlitter, Dickman, and Kregel farms. Rescue Two Iowa City Men From Manhole
Two Iowa City Light and Power employees William Houser and James O Connor were saved from a gas filled manhole after collapsing underground Monday. Fellow worker Clarence Adrian watched from above and, aided by student F E Deatherage and W B Cole, pulled them to safety and they were revived with an inhalator.

Charles R. Carpenter widely known as Charley Carpenter, president of the State Bank of Fayette, was feted at a Monday banquet by bank directors and townspeople to mark his five decades with the bank. More than 200 high school and college teachers from six states will attend the seventeenth annual history and social studies conference in Iowa City. Speakers include Elmer Ellis, H. D. Gideonse, R. Cascade Crash Victims Funeral Services Held
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Cascade for two of five men killed in a truck collision near Sterling Illinois on Saturday. Clem Koppes Nathan Hunter Leonard Parker were honored at St. Martin's church Devaney chapel Worthington. Two Chicago men also died.
