Government study shows sharp drops in lead and tobacco related chemicals in adults and children over the past decade, but tobacco related exposure remains high in young children. Lead exposure among five year olds fell from 44 to 22 percent, yet poverty hotspots still show dangerous levels. The report tested 2500 volunteers for 116 chemicals, finding one or more positives in most.
The EPA will require stepped up monitoring of surface water with high atrazine levels at 200 sites across 11 states in the Midwest and South. Syngenta will conduct the monitoring and may be forced to take corrective steps. if drinking water levels stay too high, use of atrazine could be banned forever in the affected watershed.
Nevin Abraham, 38, hijacked a mail truck in Miami and held a postal carrier hostage as police pursued through the city for hours.
