Missing SUI Youth Found in Chicago

Ernest Archer 18 son of Muscatine residents was reported missing last Saturday. He was found in Chicago after a district police station tip. Archer said he came to Chicago on impulse and spent all his money. Police had dragged the Mississippi River after his suitcase was found.

Regular Army Recruits Four More Men in Cedar Rapids

Third Victim of Car Train Collision Dies

Water loo Iowa report says Mrs Stephen E Dwyer jr aged 2 died Friday from injuries in a car train crash last Sunday. Her father in law Stephen E Dwyer 70 of Humboldt was killed instantly and Delbert Benton 40 of Magee died later. Her husband and niece Bentley were injured. Mrs Dwyer is survived by her husband who is blind and four young children.

Troop Arrivals From Bremerton Scheduled for New York

Four transports from Brem erhaven are set to reach New York Saturday. The Thomas Barry carries 143 troops and 152 war brides and children, the General Richardson 1 307 troops, the E B Alexander 674 troops, and the Marine Robin 867 troops. Friday 183 war brides and children arrived aboard the S S America.

Train Wrecking Charge Narrowed for Two Walton Boys

Cass County Prosecutor Keith Campbell said 11 year old Jack Sprinkle and 10 year old Lysle Graves will be tried on delinquency charges for wrecking a Pennsylvania railroad passenger train at Walton last Monday. Four were killed and 45 injured after the train jumped the tracks due to a bale of fencing wire the boys admit placing on the rails. Federal authorities call the federal train wrecking charge too severe given the youths tender ages.

Council Bluffs Boy Drowns on River Ice

Eight year old LaVerne Mandenhall Jr. fell through thin ice on the Missouri River in Council Bluffs. Firefighters and police searched two hours Friday but the body had not yet been recovered. A companion William said both boys were on the Ak Sar Ben ice when LaVerne slipped into the water. Tommy ran home to tell his mother.

Kidnapping of Mrs. Phoebe Hill Triggers Long Island Search

New York police hunted four young men Friday across Long Island for abducting Mrs. Phoebe Hill on a Manhattan street. She was driven off after a bar outing with her husband Max Hill, NBC commentator, and raped and robbed during a 60 mile car trip. The couple, attacked as they walked to their apartment, were separated. Hill later waited at home for his wife.

Night Club Gutted in Des Moines Blaze

Fire gutted the interior of a two story brick building in downtown Des Moines housing the Tally Ran night club on the second floor and the Trocadero cafe on the first floor. One firefighter Alfred Dunagan reportedly suffered a fractured ankle as six fire trucks battled the blaze.

Fire Devours Barn. 18 Guernseys Perish at Fleming Farm

A large barn on the William Fleming farm four miles north of Ankeny burned Friday night killing eighteen purebred Guernseys and three sheep. The blaze destroyed the barn and caused extensive livestock loss. Damages were not disclosed.
