State to Buy 400 Compact Cars Next Year

Des Moines AP State Car Dispatcher Frank Crabb proposes the state buy 400 American made compact cars next year to save about 223 568 dollars. He estimates 478 dollars per car in purchase savings and 32 368 dollars more in fuel oil and tires, plus 11 500 dollars to set up a service station. He projects 275 50 dollars per car savings for 41 323 dollars total at the site and up to 100 000 possible. Crabb urges servicing visiting Des Moines cars at the new station before returning home.

Hunter Nominated by GOP for 22nd District Senate Seat

Jesse G. Hunter, Cedar Rapids fire chief, was unanimously chosen Wednesday night as the Republican candidate for state senator from Iowa’s 22nd district. The seat opened after J Donald Weimer, a Democrat, vacated the post for business reasons. Hunter pledged to serve district and state with dedication and cooperate across parties once elected.

Cashen couple seek return of city parking lot property

On the final day of 1970 the Iowa traffic death toll reached at least 904, equaling the worst annual total on record. A Franklin County crash near Hampton killed two, boosting statewide deaths and reinforcing concerns from officials that 900 road deaths in one year is excessive.
