FBI warns of foreign influence in black extremist groups
In its 1968 annual report FBI director J Edgar Hoover says foreign influence in black extremist groups continues to receive close attention and warns of the growth of such groups as a potential threat to internal security. The report notes Progressive Labor has infiltrated SDS and shifted some New Left adherents toward Maoist Marxist-Leninist views. It also cites a sabotage workshop at the SDS convention and a wave of bombings and arsons shortly after. The FBI reports records set for fugitives located, cars recovered, and money saved, with savings totaling 335 million dollars, plus more than 290 criminals convicted and 27,000 cars recovered.
