Russia Finns clash eyed by aging tailor with first hand view
Oscar Soderlund a Swedish American tailor born in St. Petersburg offers a personal analysis of the war in Finland. He asserts German foremen sabotage Russian guns, cites poor Russian labor and lack of schooling, and argues Finns can survive the season with Arctic winter conditions and terrain. He recalls Tsarist histories, notes Kronstadt base damage and the potential for Helsinki bombardment, and highlights Finnish resolve and use of mines forests and lakes to slow Russian advances. He describes his storied life from St. Petersburg to Cedar Rapids and involvement in the local tailors union.
