A large, long awaited study shows removing precancerous polyps lowers colon cancer risk by 90 percent. Researchers led by Dr Sidney Winawer report that routine detection and removal of polyps can prevent this cancer, which kills about 57,000 Americans yearly. Publication appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine.
