Counties push local minimum wage raises across Iowa
Counties move ahead with higher minimum wages in Johnson Linn Polk and Wapello counties setting stage for a statewide raise. Johnson County increases to 10.10 an hour on Jan 1 with others following or resisting through local ordinances. Officials warn preemption could erase county actions while stressing poverty reduction through higher pay. The discussion comes as lawmakers eye a statewide policy amid Republican majorities and local debates over home rule and cost to services.

Company offers employee cruises once again as incentive sparks buzz
Berth said the program started in 1989 with trips to Acapulco and Hawaii, lapsed in 2005, and has now reignited amid better fortunes. More than 800 employees were invited, over 600 signed up, while others chose cash. Media inquiries from NBC Today, CNN, Toronto station, Washington Times, MSN, Yahoo, Omaha World-Herald, Portland radio, and Tampa TV followed. The perk shows creative engagement working for now.
