Iowa officials propose using emergency federal funds to finish bovine tuberculosis eradication and remove about 35,000 dairy cows. The plan seeks to accelerate indemnity payments and speed accreditation across counties, potentially making Iowa TB free in a little over a year. Nationwide, 600,000 tubercular cows exist, with 300,000 in New York and 150,000 in California, and a broader campaign could remove up to 2,000,000 cows to solve the surplus.
